Questions

Questions about chargers, panels and permits

Can a Level 2 charger go in our garage?

Most garages can take one. What decides it is how much capacity your panel has left after the heat pump, range and other big loads, and how far the charger sits from the panel. We work both out during the free walkthrough and say plainly whether it can be fitted as is or needs panel work first.

What if something electrical needs attention today?

Call and describe it. Heat at an outlet, a burning smell or a main breaker that will not hold gets priority within the working day, and we will tell you on the phone how to keep things safe until we arrive. If there is smoke or fire, call 911 before anything else.

Will my project need a permit?

If it touches the panel, adds circuits, installs a charger or rewires part of the house, expect one. We file it, coordinate the inspection and give you the signed-off result. Replacing a fixture or switch with the same thing generally does not need one.

How can I tell if 200-amp service is necessary?

By adding up what the house already uses and what you plan to add. A heat pump, a charger and an induction range together can push a smaller service too far, but a careful load calculation often shows room to spare. We run that calculation at the walkthrough before recommending an upgrade.

What goes into the price of a new panel?

The service size you need, where the meter and panel sit, any work the utility requires, and how much wall or siding has to be opened and patched. We see all of that at the walkthrough, then give you a written figure for that scope.

How disruptive is a panel replacement?

The changeover usually takes most of one day, with the house unpowered for the swap itself. The utility handles the disconnection and reconnection, and the permit has to be in place first, so we set the date with you once both are lined up.
